Judged OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in August 2017, The Old Vicarage Nursery, as the name suggests, was once the vicarage to St Philips Church. Built in the early 1900’s, it sits in its own grounds and still retains its original character and charm, giving a feeling of warmth and security for the children.
At The Old Vicarage we have a maximum of 62 places, making it the ideal environment for young children to experience mixing with their peers whilst still benefiting from smaller group activities. All staff are professionally trained and are there to help your child learn, feel safe and be happy.
Welcoming children from four months to five years of age, our baby, toddler and pre-school rooms are all equipped to a very high standard. Our spacious and secure garden and play area gives children the opportunity to explore the outside in all weathers, together with our Nature Kindergarten sessions for pre-school aged children, giving your child their own unique experience as they are given the opportunity to instigate their own learning in the natural world.
The cozy baby unit consists of two large adjoining rooms. The rooms feature cushions and soft areas for relaxed play as well as an area for messy play which the babies really enjoy – and lots of toys! We also have a comfortable sleeping area for that homely feeling.
The toddler room is to the rear of The Old Vicarage and looks over the secure outdoor play area. The light and spacious room is equipped to aid in the continued development of your child. Role play, musical instruments, a book corner, toys and messy play are all available in this room. Toddlers also have the choice of a smaller room which is perfect for nap times or we can fill the room with safe climbing equipment and foam bricks for occasional more adventurous indoor play.
The majority of the first floor is dedicated to our pre-school ready children which is made up of our older toddlers from two and half years of age through to our four and five year olds ready to make their first steps into ‘big’ school. The large open plan space is divided into themed areas and is equipped with toys, books and facilities for various types of play. These areas are constantly updated and changed to give the children lots of different experiences and learning opportunities.
Whatever age your child starts nursery, they will have their own individual Learning Journey file into which is placed spontaneous and planned observations, samples of artwork and photographs of them taking part in a wide range of activities which form part of nursery life. The Learning Journey travels through our nursery with your child and is given to parents when your child moves on to 'big' school.
