April 2016 Activities

The glory of gardening : hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just on the body, but the soul.

All of our activities will be running alongside children's individual interests.

Week Commencing 4th April

Our topic for the month is 'growing' which links April to National Garden Month. The children will be planting up a variety of seeds so keep an eye out on Twitter to see some of their hard work. Our younger children will be exploring the texture of compost and filling and empting containers to aid in developing their motor skills.

It's pizza day on 5th April.....yum! The children will be able to choose their own toppings to create their individual pizza's for snack time.

Week Commencing 11th April

This week is National Library Week and some of our pre-school children will be taking a trip to Blackburn Library to take advantage of what's on offer. In Nursery the children will be using the story sacks to help develop communication skills and enhance their imagination in a way that relates to the story using puppets and music.

11th April is Pet Day in Pre-School and the children are invited to bring in photos of their pets to share as well as painting pictures of their favourite pets.

Week Commencing 18th April

It's Healthy Body Happy Me Week and each day we have a special theme promoting healthy messages with fun activities.

On Monday we will be once again talking about healthy eating and the impact is has on our bodies for Eat Well and Feel Fantastic. Tuesday is about Caring for Our Bodies where the children will be learning a song to brush their teeth to. Magic Movers is the theme for Wednesday where the children will be shaking it up to some basic dance routines. Thursday is all about being physical in the Great Outdoors and we will be using the garden to exercise and get moving. To round off the week, Reflection Friday is looking at how to deal with our feelings using puppets to learn how to express ourselves in a positive way.

On Thursday 21st April, the Queen will be celebrating her 90th birthday and we will have a variety of royal activities going on throughout the day in recognition of Her Majesty's official birthday.

We will be rounding off the week with our annual Knights and Princesses Party on the 22nd April. The children are invited to come dressed up as royal knights of the realm or their favourite fairy-tale princess for our St George's Day celebrations. If your child does not normally attend on a Friday afternoon, you are more than welcome to book an extra slot from 2.00 - 4.00 @ £5 per child.

Week Commencing 25th April

As it's the London Marathon on 23rd April, the children will be taking part in their own mini marathon on Monday 24th April. The children are invited to come dressed in sports gear and appropriate footwear to take part.

With the days getting warmer, we are planning a trip to Witton Park during the week for a listening walk. As part of this, we will be using our senses to observe the changes in the environment now Spring is finally here!

30th April is National Smell Day where the children will have opportunities to test their noses through a variety of different scents and smells.
