January 2016 Activities

January was named after the Roman god Janus and is also the Roman word for door. Janus had two faces which allowed him to look forward into the coming year & backwards into the past year.

Welcome back everyone to the start of the Spring 2016 term and we hope you all had a most enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

Week Commencing 4th January

National Bird Day is on 5th January so this week's topic will be all about our feathered friends. The children will be making bird feeders, doing a bit of bird watching in the garden and lots of fun bird related craft activities, including creating edible bird's nests and home-made binoculars.

Week Commencing 11th January

Water is this week's theme so the children will be learning about floating and sinking as well as animals that live in the water. Our sensory play will be 'seasons in a bowl' with lots of different items frozen in ice e.g. pine cones, pebbles, leaves and shiny sequins.

Week Commencing 18th January

To keep us all moving during the colder days, the children will have the opportunity to listen to a wide range of music as well as making musical instruments and learning about rhythm and sound.

Week Commencing 25th January

Its all about the weather! Using our discovery sacks and themed story stones, the children will begin to learn about the changes in the weather..........roll on some spring sunshine please!
