A very warm welcome to all of our new children and their families who have recently joined us and also welcome back to our term time children following the Easter half term break.
We have several key dates throughout the month which will run alongside our additional topics being showcased within our various age ranges.
The Baby Room will be exploring space through junk modelling rockets and discovering planets through the medium of paint and paper mache.
May is Share a Story Month and Preschool will be focusing on literacy and looking at one of their favourite story collections entitled 'Supertato'. The children will also be able to interact with our superhero small world area and superhero dress up in the homecorner, together with creating their own potato superhero.
The Toddler Room are also engaging with the superhero theme through a range of creative activities as well as testing their physical skills with an obstacle course to build strength and stamina. The small world area has also been superhero themed and the children will be having a superhero picnic to finish off our topic (date of picnic to be confirmed).
To further engage with Share a Story Month, the children are invited throughout Nursery to bring in their favourite books from home to celebrate them at circle times.
Monday 6th May is Early May Bank Holiday and Nursery will be closed.
Fruity Friday is celebrated annually at Nursery and this year it will be held on Friday 10th May. This is another fun and fantastic learning opportunity to introduce and educate our children about the importance of healthy eating. In the lead up to Fruity Friday itself, Nursery will be giving all of the children the opportunity to taste and experience a wide range of tasty fruits. The Babies and Toddlers will be fruit painting and looking at the range of shapes and sizes fruit comes in whilst our Preschool children will be learning about where different fruits are grown, as well as linking back to our growing month in what we need to do to help fruit grow.
Week commencing 13th May is Sun Awareness Week and our Toddler and Preschool children will be learning how to keep ourselves safe in the sun with the use of sun hats, sun cream and sun glasses. The Baby Room will be adding sun hats and sun glasses to their role play area for the children to investigate.
Wednesday 15th May is International Day of Families and the Toddlers and Preschoolers will be creating their own family trees to celebrate their own family unit. The Baby Room will be looking back at the children's All About Me photos, as well as learning the Finger Family song.
Do we really need an excuse for a pizza party? On Friday 17th May the children will have the opportunity to measure and mix quantities and ingredients for making fresh pizza dough, together with picking their own healthy toppings for their individual tasty and freshly made snack. There are many educational learning opportunities contained within this activity and the children absolutely love to help prepare tasty items to bake and eat..........yum!
The week of 20th May is Walk to School Week. Living Streets, a UK charity, is celebrating it's 90th anniversary and the Walk to School challenge is aimed at getting to the heart of walking and how it can benefit the whole community as well as improve individual wellbeing. So, why not ditch the car and walk to Nursery throughout the week!
