October 2016 Activities

"When witches go riding and black cats are seen, the moon laughs and whispers, 'tis near Halloween".

Harvest

All of our activities will be running alongside children's individual interests.

October is one of our favourite months at Nursery. Our summer menu changes to hearty, warm meals and its time to bring out the coats and wellies for some lovely autumn activities.

Our Babies will be continuing with the theme of autumn throughout the month by creating autumn pictures with a variety of textured resources and different coloured paint. Also, the children will be using nursery rhyme puppets to support children’s communication with a ‘what’s in the bag’ autumn themed activity. This will be a fun way of learning nursery rhymes like Twinkle, Twinkle and Incy Wincey Spider as the children self-select their favour characters.

The Toddler Room children will be going on an autumn welly walk and looking at natural changes in the environment, as well as leaf printing and making autumn collages. We will be going on a bear hunt and helping the local wildlife by making bird feeders, together with baking hedgehog biscuits and learning about animals that hibernate.

Our Pre-School children will be focusing on helping people for “Do Something Nice Day” where they will be talking about sharing, caring and making a gift to take home for someone special.

6th October is Mad Hatter’s Day and our Pre-School children will be celebrating by having a traditional tea party themed snack.

14th October is Egg Day and the children will be invited to bring in decorated eggs from home to enter into our eggtastic competition. The winners will receive prizes.

With Halloween looming, the children will be having a spooky week by baking witch biscuits, making Halloween collages and their very own cauldron mix with wiggly worms and eyeballs! We will also be doing our annual pumpkin carving and the children will be encouraged to create their own pumpkin faces and help their teachers to scoop out the pumpkin inners!!

Alongside this theme, the Pre-School children will be focusing on the feeling ‘scared’ and discussing what makes them feel scared and taking selfies of their best ‘scared’ faces.

It’s World Pasta Day on 25th October so we will be incorporating our spooky theme to make mummy pasta bandages.

Annual HALLOWEEN PARTY on Monday 31st October. The children and staff are invited to attend in Halloween themed attire where there will be fun, games and party food between 1.30pm – 3.30pm.If your child does not normally attend on a Monday and you wish them to attend for the party, please book your space with Miss Michelle or Miss Cat where a small charge of £5 will be required (payable in advance).
